While cotton canvas was still the main material of bags in Japan in the 1960s, SANPAK was developing outdoor goods and backpacks for companies in the USA and Canada, exploring nylon and other new materials. One of the companies recognized the brand’s technique, and developed bags, bullet belts, and rucksacks for US military with SANPAK. To guarantee military spec quality, the SANPAK team studied really hard and made a lot of effort to meet the tough request, with its high quality then became popular in the US and Canada market. They then developed more styles and started exporting to Europe and Australia. WALK ABOUT is one of the brands SANPAK used to export with, buying the brand from the US company, they started selling in Japan in 1976, customizing bags that adapt to the local culture. Greatly received by the Japanese market, WALK ABOUT started a huge backpack trend in Japan.
